Creating a Teaching Portfolio (TP) is an exciting and reflective process where you establish links between experiences and future aspirations as a university teacher. Using our collective knowledge about people and our disciplines, learning theories and teaching methodologies, we explore the rewards and challenges awaiting of a career in university teaching. A TP helps you make sense of it all and qualifies you to move forward in your career.

Welcome to the teaching portfolio workshop blog
Teaching Portfolio Workshop: autumn 2012
Dear Participants
I am pleased to inform you that the next Teaching
Portfolio workshop will take place on 29th and 30th August
2012.  We look forward to welcoming you
to the workshop.  In advance of that you may
find the following information helpful.
The autumn workshop will introduce you to what a
Teaching Portfolio is and what it contains.
It will explore the theoretical and practical background to Teaching
Portfolios and, of course, will also focus on how to get started writing your
own Portfolio. The workshop will comprise a combination of knowledge exchange,
discussions, exercises, presentations and activities. The overall objective is
to help you professionalise your university teaching and to make sure that you
get the support and help you need both to integrate the Roskilde way of doing
problem based learning and project work and to qualify for your lectureship at
the end of the adjunct period.
Key elements of the workshop are:
·
Becoming a reflective practitioner (I strongly
recommend you read Donald Schön’s book ‘The Reflective practitioner’)
·
Structuring your experiences and hopes for future teaching
·
Organising and planning your qualification period
(adjunct supervision, participating in courses;
·
Formulating an agenda and plan for reaching
pedagogical teaching and learning goals),
·
Getting a grip on learning theories and teaching
techniques.
All of you have teaching experience already – some
more than others – and at the workshop we will use your existing experiences as
a way into discussing practices, methodologies, learning theories and goals for
the future. It’s all about building knowledge, insight and confidence. To do
that we will explore not just the positive and more effective teaching
experiences but the less positive and more challenging as well.  To help you in this process I’d like you to
prepare in advance of the first workshop session on Wednesday the 29th
a few answers and thoughts to the following questions:
1: Who was the best teacher you ever had?
(at any level – pre-school to Ph.D.)
Why was s/he so effective?
2: Who was the worst teacher you ever had?
Why was s/he so bad?
3: What is the best teaching experience you
ever had?
Why was it so positive?
4: What is the worst teaching experience you
ever had?
Why was it so bad?
5: What do you think you know about learning
theories and university pedagogics?
How did you learn this?
To help you in your thinking I have attached an
article: Teaching smart people how to learn – which I think you may find
interesting.  Please take the time ahead
of the workshop to read this.  In
addition, I have created a Blog for us, which you will find at: http://teachingportfolioatroskilde2012autumn.blogspot.dk/
Finally, a gentle reminder that full attendance at the workshop is required to pass the course so
please plan ahead with this mind.  During
the workshop refreshments will be available and sandwiches and snacks will be
served for lunch both days – so do not worry about food. If you have any food
allergies please let Inge Stenholt, our perfect secretary, know as soon as
possible.  Inge can be emailed at: Inge
Stenholt Stenholt@ruc.dk
So, in summary, I look forward to welcoming you to the
workshop, to working with you and to reading your portfolios in the future!
Best wishes
